First of all, what is the “GUT” anyway? Your gut is the part of your body where digestion happens, the digestive tract or gastrointestinal tract. It includes the mouth, stomach, intestines and many other organs.
Why is the gut important? Other than digesting our food the gut also is the location for an intricate web of bacteria called the microbiome that helps to keep us healthy. Recent research has shown that the microbiome regulates metabolism, immunity activity, brain activity and much more. Simply put, the brain is dependent on the gut to function properly.
With this in mind we discuss your history to determine if your gut microbiome has been injured by antibiotics, certain foods or other issues like chronic stress and poor sleep. We then incorporate a combination of gut health tests, dietary modifications and pre-probiotic supplementation. Other recommendations include stress reductions, mindfulness, relaxation techniques, and sleep hygiene.
