Noticing more hair in your brush, a widening part, or an uncomfortable scalp can leave you wondering where to begin. A hair loss consultation is a chance to discuss those changes, review your hair-care habits, and decide what kind of evaluation is appropriate. At AGAPE Hair + Wellness, the first step is a Free 15-Min Virtual Consultation—not a promise of a diagnosis or a guaranteed regrowth result.

What is a trichologist?

Trichology focuses on hair and scalp health. A trichologist can help you understand scalp-care needs and explore the next steps for thinning, shedding, breakage, or irritation. Trichology certification is not the same as being a dermatologist. Some concerns need medical evaluation, and an assessment may lead to a recommendation to see a dermatologist or another appropriate healthcare professional.

AGAPE founder Alisa Gooding is a PA-C, MPH, and Certified Trichologist. Our approach considers hair and scalp care alongside the person’s broader wellness, rather than treating every hair-loss concern as the same problem.

Start with the Free 15-Min Virtual Consultation

During the 15-minute call, tell our team what you are noticing and what you hope to address. We can discuss whether a scalp assessment is a suitable next step and explain the available services. A short virtual consultation is different from a detailed examination: it cannot establish every cause of hair loss or replace an in-person medical evaluation when one is needed.

How to prepare for your hair loss consultation

A little preparation makes it easier to describe changes that may be difficult to remember in the moment. You do not need to arrive with a self-diagnosis or buy new products before asking for guidance.

  • Write down when shedding, thinning, breakage, or scalp discomfort began and whether the change was sudden or gradual.
  • Bring a list of medications, supplements, and hair or scalp products you use. Do not stop prescribed medication without speaking with your prescriber.
  • Note recent illnesses, major stress, childbirth, dietary changes, or changes in styling habits that may be relevant.
  • If you have them, bring photos showing how your hair or part has changed over time and any relevant prior test results.
  • Ask the team about washing and styling before your appointment, especially if you wear braids, extensions, a wig, or a protective style.

What happens during a scalp and hair assessment?

AGAPE’s trichology service includes scalp and hair analysis, microscopy-based evaluation, and discussion of a personalized care plan. The conversation can cover your symptoms, current routine, and goals. Hair-loss evaluation generally starts with a history and examination; the American Academy of Dermatology explains that additional tests, such as blood work or a scalp biopsy, may be needed in some cases. These are not automatically required or included in every AGAPE visit.

What can trichoscopy show?

Trichoscopy uses magnification to take a closer look at the scalp and hair. AGAPE’s Trichoscopy Suite provides high-magnification imaging and baseline photos that can help document visible changes over time. Images support an assessment, but they cannot reveal every underlying medical cause of hair loss on their own. Symptoms, history, and any appropriate medical testing still matter.

A care plan should fit your needs—not a trend

Your next steps may include adjustments to your at-home routine, discussion of in-suite services, follow-up checks, or a recommendation for medical care. Ask what each proposed option is intended to address, its limitations, the cost, and how progress will be reviewed. A consultation does not mean you need every treatment on the menu, and outcomes depend on the cause of the concern and the individual.

When should you seek medical care?

Arrange a medical evaluation for sudden or patchy hair loss, persistent scalp pain, burning, sores, or ongoing unexplained shedding. The American Academy of Dermatology notes that finding the cause matters because different types of hair loss need different approaches. Do not rely on a cosmetic service or an online product to rule out a medical condition.
